Creating a digital version of your signature is a great way to streamline your workflow, allowing you to easily sign documents electronically. This guide will walk you through a simple method to create a clean, reusable digital signature with a transparent background using Affinity.
Steps to Extract Your Signature
Scan or Photograph your signature written in black ink on clean white paper. Ensure the image is well-lit and high-resolution for the best results.
Open the image in the Affinity app.
Adjust Levels (Optional but Recommended): To ensure the white background is pure white and the signature is pure black, apply a Levels adjustment.
- On the Layers panel, click Adjustments and select Levels.
- In the Levels panel that appears, drag the white level slider (rightmost input slider) to the left and the black level slider (leftmost input slider) to the right until the background is stark white and the signature is dark and clear. This is a non-destructive adjustment, so you can tweak it later.
Remove the White Background: Now, it's time to make the background transparent using the Erase White Paper filter.
- Go to the menu
Pixel > Filters > Colors > Erase White Paper. This will instantly remove the white areas of the image, leaving only your signature on a transparent background.
- Go to the menu
Crop the image (Optional): Use the Selection Brush Tool or draw a rectangular selection marquee around the signature to trim excess transparent space. Go to
Edit > Copy, thenFile > New From Clipboard. This creates a new document perfectly sized to the signature.Export as PNG: Export the signature as a PNG file to preserve the transparency. Go to
File > Exportand select PNG as the format. Ensure the background is transparent in the preview and click Export.
Now you have a high-quality digital signature that you can use in documents, emails, and more!
